I'm glad that you liked it even if it was painful. With something like this, it's inevitable that it will be, everyone's feelings are bound to be badly hurt. L is human, just like everybody else, but I think he's painfully cut off from his humanity. This was one of the only times he allows himself to give in to his emotions, but of course when you repress something so strongly it's not going to come out in appropriate, fulfilling ways. I just can't believe that he's totally happy just being a position, even if he can sometimes make himself believe that, and make everyone around him think so too.
