Ramble away, it's fine. I like it when people talk to me on this thing. Anyway I completely agree about Watari being a parental figure for him--he may be a super genius, but he's human, and at a certain point in his life he would have NEEDED someone to act as a parent. We don't know how long they knew each other, but we can assume it's been a while. L was supposed to have started solving cases at age eight, and in the part of the anime where he's with Watari outside the orphanage, he's clearly a little kid. So yeah. Totally think they've got the surrogate parent thing going on...and any and all Watari/L stuff makes me slightly ill, rape or not. (Pairing stuff I mean.)
